NEWS! July, 2012: Bernie Dresel joins the Craviotto family as a Craviotto artist!

BERNIE DRESEL

Bernie represents everything Craviotto Drums could possibly wish for in an endorser. Bernie’s reputation in the industry as one of the predominant go-to drummers and percussionists speaks for itself. Johnny has been a friend and fan of Bernie for many, many years. We are so happy Bernie has joined the team.

Here’s what Bernie had to say about Craviotto Drums:

“The Craviotto name has been synonymous with the very best solid wood snare drums for over 2 decades, and I have enjoyed playing those special snares immensely since I was first introduced to them 16 years ago. I (and many others that have had the good fortune to play or hear a Craviotto drum) have been saying for years that Johnny Craviotto is a modern day Stradivari when it comes to crafting amazing sounding snare drums. Now with the relatively new Craviotto entry into the world of complete single ply drum sets (and all the sound colors available with different customizing options, along with the VERY wide and usable tuning range of each individual drum) the correct moniker for any of his masterpieces might be a modern day Stradi-various. Johnny’s love of making THE quality musical instrument comes through in each and every hand- made work of art that he creates. I’ve always pretty much been a “maple guy” and have been attracted to that harder wood with the characteristics of power and attack that it brings in Johnny’s hands. But the different wood possibilities that are now available (especially the softer, darker, warmer woods of walnut projection and mahogany restraint, not to mention the revolutionary combination hybrid shells) have me so excited about opening up my tonal choices to a wider pallet than I have ever gone before. Then there are the metal snare drums (brass, copper, and a Masters Metal hybrid of the two) introduced just in the past 3 years that harken back to the tradition of the great coveted 1920′s metal drums. I must play all these new legends as their story develops right before our eyes. I have no other choice. There is no other choice. My engineers are happy, my band mates are happy, the producers and writers I work for are happy, and I’m thrilled to be a part of the Craviotto family.”

“All the drum sizes sound bigger, fuller, and deeper than they really are. They have a combination of sensitivity and power with an oh so very richness of sound, along with classy, yet sexy, good looks. Yes, they are gorgeous looking, too, with beautiful select woods, or colorful lacquers, and stunning hardware. And each drum is alive with presence, singing with a clarity and openness I have never heard in a drum before, but only dreamed about. Johnny seems to have taken everything good that has happened with drum building in the past, perfected it, and has finally put it all together into the complete modern package with numerous options for the player to pick from, including the modern 45 degree edge, the vintage 30 degree edge, or the fat new vintage baseball bat edge, with the added choice of having any combination of them on top or bottom. I’m excited to try different hoop options and combinations of them top or bottom as well to create different “flavors”. There is such a commitment to complete excellence all the way down to the great sounding snare wires that he chooses to put on every one of his snare drums. And like all great instruments that are works of art, each drum (being hand- made) has its own unique characteristics. I’m so inspired to play these drums. Even from another room, the drum beckons me to come play it, to hear it over and over again. This may sound like a love letter, and I guess it is. But these are not exaggerations or marketing phrases I speak…it is the truth. I never tire of them or want to try something else. These drums are the final destination. They are the MUSICAL instrument we, as drummers, have been waiting for. They are worth every penny. I can’t tell you how many other times I’d thought I had found a snare drum (or drum set) that would be “the one” only to be eventually disappointed and searching again. But in this case, each and every Craviotto drum IS “the one”. It ends up only being a color choice of which Craviotto I want to play. They never disappoint me or distract me from reaching a musical goal. I rarely think of anything being “the best”. But for me, Craviotto drums clearly are the best drums there are, and I MUST play them. I just can’t wait until the next time I see them and play them again! And I’m excited to see what other inventive and innovative things I’m sure this special man will bring to us in the future.
With love, and deep appreciation and gratitude, Bernie Dresel=

Bernie’s new kit will be a Craviotto Custom Stacked Solid Drumset using hand-selected Mahogany and Figured Maple.
