The folks at Drum Art in Italy have been building great stave shell drums since 2004. We have their Fat Boy snare and are now getting some of their other wonderful stave shell drums. En route to us are: Aluminum, Maple, Padouk, American Cherry, Olive and more. Check these out and contact Steve at vintagedrums@aol.com for more information. Here are a few for you to check out. These will be here soon and will be on our Reverb store for the Illinois shop so stay tuned!
PADOUK: (Padauk). A dense African hardwood with beautiful color. Slightly harder and heavier than Rosewood. A 'musical wood' with strong tone and a robust sound. $1295
AMERICAN CHERRY: Similar in density to maple with a rich, projective midrange and balance. Sonically similar to maple but less dry-sounding. Clean and articulate with more sustain and clarity than maple, with more low and midrange than maple. $1295
OLIVE: A dense and oily wood with brighter tonal qualities. $1365
ALUMINUM: This is a unique 5 step treatment process over the stave wood shell. There is a primer coat, then a special paint coat that is then oxidized through a special process that makes the finish unique on each drum. Then a special protective coat is applied to block oxidation, followed by a matte finish. $1269
