You have all been waiting for it, finally a tuning seminar with Steve Maxwell Sr! Here at the Illinois store on August 5th from 5:30 to 7:30 PM we will have everyone in one room talking about one topic: how to get the most out of the sound of your drum.
The drum set is a relatively new instrument that has exploded into standard use during the twentieth and twenty first century. Traps kits have been used in many different styles of music, and for many different purposes so there are lots of attitudes about tuning that have evolved over time. It is an instrument where there is no rule set that is universal, so creativity is important for every individual drummer to find his own sound.
This event is designed for Steve to help all those who attend to find their voice by letting them in on some of the secrets that he has come across during his long career studying with some of the greats such as Papa Jo Jones; by exchanging ideas with players with styles varying from"modern" to more "traditional"; and being fortunate enough to tune some of the finest and most varied instruments made all over the world.
After the seminar jazz great Joel Spencer will be playing with Jeremy Kahn on piano and Larry Gray on bass. This will be for our usual jam session except we will start at 8:00 PM, and you can sit in with these top notch musicians after they play some tunes! Joel, Jeremy and Larry are truly world class musicians and they reside right here in our own back yard. This is NOT to be missed! Check out their websites for more info:
