Unique WMP dyna never drilled for tone control
SOLD. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. This drum is from my personal collection and I have finally decided that it is time for someone else to become the caretaker of this rarity. The drum is a beautiful WMP 5x14 Rogers wood dynasonic snare drum. This drum is very unique. It is 100% original, and was never drilled for a tone control. The late Ellis Tollin, who designed the dynasonic along with Joe Thompson and Ben Strauss of Rogers, told me that only Buddy Rich and Louie Bellson ordered their dynas without the tone control, and that all of these orders came through Ellis's Drum City store. Additionally, Buddy Rich always requested an additional coat of lacquer on the inside of the shell of his dynas. As you may know, the dynasonic interior has a beautiful coat of lacquer. We have handled over 40 wood dynasonics in the past several years, and this particular drum definitely has an added coat of lacquer on the interior, which tracks with Ellis's comment. In my discussions with Ellis, he felt that this drum was built for Buddy, and that the order for the drum came through his store. In all my years of collecting this is the only wood dynasonic that I have seen with these features. Chrome and finish are excellent and drum sounds superb. Slight lifting of one reinforcement ring at the seam. Very minor and we have left this as is since it has no impact on the drum. White Marine Pearl dynasonics are true rarities and are highly sought after by collectors worldwide. This particular example represents the best of the best. Beautiful original condition; extreme rarity in terms of the configuration; and the possibility that this drum was built for the one and only Buddy Rich. As always, we stand by our hard earned reputation for selling fine, original vintage drums. I can not, and will not, represent that Buddy definitively owned this drum. What I can represent to you are the facts I have laid out here, and to indicate that based on information from highly credible sources, it is distinctly possible that this instrument was built for Buddy.
